Our teaching and learning philosophy, in the first instance , is student-centred , encompassing teaching methods and techniques that put students' interests first, as central to the learning experience, based on the values of the Department. Our teaching and learning philosophy, in the second instance , is value-driven , which is a practical, analytical and decision-making frame of reference that lecturers and students can use to guide actions and make determinations in all teaching and learning processes. Our five core values centre on excellence, accountability and integrity, human dignity and respect, innovation and criticality, and ownership and leadership.

Teaching and Learning Philosophy

In High School, Philosophy has been re organized through complex relationships established between the subject in the educational scenario and also in the political universe that characterizes each lived context. In High School, Philosophy has a crucial impact in educating students to be critical citizens, as pointed out by both theoreticians and teachers during their pedagogical practice. Philosophy is a reflection to which any foreign matter serves, or we say to which only serves the matter that is strange for you. Philosophy and its teaching have been recurring themes among those interested in analyzing the role and the relationship between the discipline and the universe. The debate becomes quite interesting, since the place of philosophy in school has been a fertile area for research and other perspectives, and presents itself as a genuinely philosophical problem. A teaching and learning philosophy TLP statement is a reflective narrative that conveys your beliefs and approach to teaching and learning. It may include your purpose as an instructor, learning goals for your students, your approach to continuous improvement and your teaching and assessment methods. It can also describe how your teaching makes a difference in the lives of your students. Whether you articulate them or not, your beliefs about teaching and learning influence many of the choices you make as an instructor.

The rationale for making particular teaching choices becomes more apparent when new faculty members reflect on what they believe about teaching and learning. Much of what faculty believe comes from their own experiences as a student, the images of teaching they hold, and their experiences as a teacher. There is, however, a body of research on teaching and learning that may serve faculty well as they hone their teaching craft. Philosophies of teaching and learning Numerous philosophers have studied what it means to teach and learn, and have come up with various explanations of the process of becoming educated. Faculty begin to refine their own beliefs and understandings of what it means to know through examining numerous theories of knowledge and making sense of the processes of teaching and learning in their own minds. This is a good starting place from which to explore other philosophies and the individuals who articulate them. Articulating your philosophy of teaching and learning New faculty members come to better understand their own philosophy through thinking about what they believe about teaching and learning.
